Former Sen. Bob Kerrey told a panel of state and federal long-term care policy experts to push Congress to pass a stimulus package before the new Congress convenes.
“Congress is going to have enact something big to stimulate our economy,” Kerrey told McKnight’s in a conversation about a discussion featuring the panel. It was held Friday at The New School, a university in New York City. Kerrey is president of the school, which co-sponsored the forum. Other co-sponsors were the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, the New York Association of Homes and Services for the Aging and the Continuing Care Leadership Coalition.
The focus of the discussion was long-term care financing reform. Panelists talked about everything from the economy’s effect on state budgets to the overwhelming cost of caregiving on families across the country. Last week, the National Governors Association appealed to congressional leaders to pass a stimulus package with an increase in the Federal Medical Assistance Percentage, which would increase Medicaid.
