» CNL Healthcare Properties completed the acquisition of seven communities in Texas and one in Illinois for approximately $187.2 million, with potential adjustments related to property net operating income. The eight properties collectively have 798 units and 72 skilled nursing beds. They were acquired from Dallas-based South Bay Partners Ltd.

» Midwestern hospitals spread referrals to a greater variety of skilled nursing facilities and typically tap their favorite SNFs less often than do hospitals in other parts of the country, according to a recently published analysis of referral patterns. In the Midwest, hospitals routinely referred patients to an average of about 14 SNFs in their vicinity as of 2008, the investigators determined. Roughly three-quarters of referrals were concentrated among a hospital’s five most-frequently utilized skilled facilities.

» Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Services acquired The Sarah Moore Health Care Center Inc., a skilled nursing facility in Delaware, OH, in August. OPRS is the largest not-for-profit provider of continuing care retirement communities in the state.
