» Large nonprofit senior living groups continue to be largely the domain of faith-based operators, according to the latest LeadingAge Ziegler 100 report. Presbyterian-, Methodist- and Lutheran-run organizations were the most common, investigators found.
» The nation’s stock of affordable, physically accessible and well-located homes for its aging population is far from adequate, according to a study that was jointly released by the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies & AARP Foundation. The study cited three intertwined challenges: the high cost of renting/ownership, locales that are ill-suited to aging-in-place and a lack of basic accessibility features at many dwellings. Improved rental assistance and relaxed zoning rules could help, the report noted.
» Holly Manor Center, a Genesis HealthCare facility in Mendham, NJ, agreed to a $75,000 settlement over charges that it discriminated against a potential employee because of his deafness, federal authorities recently announced. Holly Manor and Genesis “do not tolerate discrimination of any kind,” Genesis said in a statement to McKnight’s.
