Assisted living group releases review of new state AL policies

At least 18 states have implemented some form of new regulations, statutes and policies governing assisted living services in the last year, according to a new analysis by the National Center for Assisted Living.

Of those 18 states, six—Idaho, Kentucky, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Texas—made major changes, according to Karl Polzer, senior policy director at NCAL and author of the new report. Some areas of assisted living regulation that saw changes during 2010 include life safety, disclosure of information, Alzheimer’s/dementia standards, medication management, background checks, and regulatory enforcement.
