The Department of Justice has recovered more than $9.3 billion from drug companies and healthcare providers that tried to rip off state or federal agencies.

The researchers said they hoped to perform further research to learn what types of whistle-blower lawsuits are most likely to yield government recoveries. More than three-fourths of nursing home care in the United States is funded by government sources such as Medicaid and Medicare.
