McKnight’s Long-Term Care News was a big national winner in the 2023 APEX Awards for Publication Excellence competition. Its team won Awards of Excellence in two writing categories, and in the best website division.

The competition was “exceptionally intense,” with more than 1,100 entries submitted, according to officials from competition administrator Communications Concepts.

McKnight’s Long-Term Care News Senior Editor Kimberly Marselas had a hand in all three awards, which raised the publication’s all-time APEX total to 55.

Marselas was joined by McKnight’s Long-Term Care News Executive Editor James M. Berklan and former Staff Writer Danielle Brown in the News Writing (government coverage) honor; by Brown in the Writing Series (“Nursing home minimum staffing mandate”) award; and Berklan and Senior Art Director Monica Pizzi in the Best Website category win.

“These honors show yet again how the 43-year history of McKnight’s Long-Term Care News has been built on outstanding writing and creativity,” said McKnight’s Editorial Director and Associate Publisher John O’Connor. The APEX Awards recognize “excellence in graphic design, editorial content, and the ability to achieve overall communications excellence.”

McKnight’s publications won seven national APEX awards overall in the 2023 competition.

In addition to LTC News’ three, McKnight’s Home Care won two: A Grand Award for Editor Liza Berger’s column writing and an Award of Excellence for Best Writing Series “Workforce woes,” by the team of Berger, Diane Eastabrook and Aminah Beg. McKnight’s Senior Living, meanwhile, won a Grand Award for Best Print Magazine and an Award of Excellence for Best Series of Blog posts by Editor Lois Bowers.
