Thanksgiving heartburn in store? CMS may release final rule on Medicare Part B therapy cuts this week

There may be more awaiting long-term care providers this week than meals of turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services may release its final rule regarding cuts to Medicare Part B therapy services, according to Cynthia Morton, executive director of the National Association for the Support of Long Term Care (NASL).

COVID-19 puts rehab patients, providers in uncharted territory

The pandemic has forced rehabilitation providers to re-examine their modes of practice as they deal with the effects of COVID-19 on nursing home residents and staff, two rehab leaders said recently during a special rehab symposium of the annual conference of the National Association for the Support of Long Term Care (NASL).

Providers prep for NASL annual meeting

Operators, including many providers of ancillary services, are getting ready for the 24th annual meeting of the National Association for the Support of Long-Term Care. The event will take place Oct. 6-8 at the Phoenix Convention Center. Recently confirmed as a featured speaker is David W. Saÿen, administrator for the San Francisco Regional Office of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. He’ll address implications of the Affordable Care Act, including insurance exchanges. Other sessions will tackle CMS’ “expanding audit empire,” health data exchanges and other top issues.

LTC groups eagerly await Supreme Court decision on healthcare reform

Despite the mixed feelings about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act among long-term care providers, all groups agree that they will be closely monitoring a case now headed to the Supreme Court. The high court said Monday it would hear oral arguments on ACA’s constitutionality in March.
