Nursing leaders have a much harder time gaining C-suite access at many skilled care businesses, a new survey has found.
Respondents noted that about only 46% of nursing facilities indicated that their organization has an executive with a nursing background.
Just 32% of those leaders have a designated nursing leader whose primary responsibility is innovation, according to the study conducted by BDO and the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.
“By not elevating nurses to the leadership levels needed to fully transform care, the industry is missing an opportunity,” said Karen Meador, M.D., of the BDO Center for Healthcare Excellence & Innovation.
“Too often, stakeholders in the health system leave nurses completely out of the process — much to their own detriment.”
