MISSOURI — Missouri voters approved a plan to expand Medicaid coverage via the state’s primary election in early August.

Voters approved the measure — with 53.2% of people voting in favor of Medicaid expansion and 46.8% against it. Missouri became the 38th state to expand the federal-state program.

Long-term care providers, which nationwide receive the vast majority of their funding from Medicaid sources, have typically opposed state Medicaid expansion efforts, saying they could potentially decrease funding for providers.

Missouri’s plan will expand the program to now cover low-income adults between ages 19 and 65.
