Transcranial magnetic stimulation increased activity in the brain tied to age-related memory loss, according to a recent study.

Northwestern University researchers used an electromagnetic coil held next to the scalp of participants, which sent short bursts of magnetic energy to targeted areas of the brain. Study participants showed more activity in their hippocampal-cortical network, which creates, stores and retrieves memory. They also scored better on memory tests after receiving stimulation, although results were temporary.
