MISSOURI — Pay raises for workers at Missouri’s state-run nursing home for military veterans were not part of Gov. Mike Parson’s proposed $30.9 billion spending plan.

The spending plan was unveiled in late January by the governor’s office. Parson had previously agreed to boost the pay for the nursing home workers by an additional $3 million. Workers currently receive about $24,850 annually.

The raise would have increased their annual salary to about $29,723.

Supporters of the raises argued that the additional funding could have reduced required overtime, workers compensation cases and the hiring of temporary workers.

The Missouri Veterans Commission said it will continue to make caregivers a top priority.

“Our employees are our best investment and we continue to invest in them through ongoing training and development,” MVC spokesman Jamie Melchert told local media outlets.
