Florida — Two proposed bills in Florida could mean fewer inspections for nursing homes within the state.

Under Senate Bill 1726 and House Bill 731, the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration would have to conduct inspections every six months at nursing homes that have Class 1 or multiple Class 2 violations until they pass two inspections without either.

Currently, the agency is required to inspect those facilities every six months for two years.

The agency’s inspection fines also would be cut from $6,000 to $3,000.

The changes would apply to all nursing homes in the state. While opponents have warned that fewer  inspections could mean worse outcomes for residents, the agency said the legislation would allow it to focus more on struggling providers.
