A Brooklyn-based startup, aiming to revolutionize emergency are for nursing homes, has beefed up its expertise by hiring a former long-term care professional.

Call9 has announced that it just hired Rachel Amalfitano as its new chief financial officer. She formerly spent five years as CFO of VillageCare, one of the Big Apple’s largest elder care providers. The company’s offering involves embedding clinical care specialists onsite at nursing homes, and enabling them to connect residents 24/7 to offsite emergency medicine physicians and specialists.

Amalfitano, who has held financial leadership positions at other New York-based managed care orgs over her 17-year career, said she is excited to join the startup, which bills itself as a replacement for 911 calls and the subsequent expensive re-hospitalization.

“Call9’s mission to transform emergency care in a way that benefits patients, insurance companies and caregivers truly excites me,” Amalfitano said in a press release. “I look forward to applying my expertise as Call9 sets out to serve ever more nursing homes and caregiving opportunities.”
