Sen. Herb Kohl (D-WI)

The nursing home community last month applauded Chairman of the Senate Special Committee on Aging Sen. Herb Kohl (D-WI) for introducing a bill to expand education and training in geriatrics and long-term care for caregivers.

“Your thoughtful legislation takes important steps in addressing our nation’s healthcare workforce recruitment and retention challenges,” said Bruce Yarwood, president and CEO of the American Health Care Association.

The “Retooling the Health Care Workforce for an Aging America Act” is a positive development for workforce education and other areas, noted Larry Minnix, president and CEO of the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging.

Alan Rosenbloom, president of the Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care, called the bill “sweeping legislation.”
