The American Health Care Association holds its 61st annual convention and expo Sunday through Wednesday in Long Beach, CA. As usual, it promises to help members earn many continuing education units and offer plenty of networking. But there also will be something unique about this year’s edition. Many members will get their first chance to interact with incoming president and CEO, Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson.
Parkinson, previously a long-term care facility owner and developer in his home state, will not leave the governor’s office until mid-January. But that won’t prevent him from making an unofficial visit to the Long Beach Convention Center early next week.
In another new twist for the meeting, educational sessions will begin at 7:30 Monday morning. The opening general session will take place at 3 p.m. and feature outgoing AHCA President and CEO Bruce Yarwood, among other association officials, as well as keynote speakers Bob Beckel and Cal Thomas, authors of the “Common Ground” USA Today column.
Exhibit hours will run from 11 a.m. to 2:30 pm. Monday and 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. The keynote speaker for Wednesday’s closing general session is New York Times best-selling writer and recognition consultant Chester Elton, author of “The Carrot Principle.”
