Conway: CMS will reach the 30% goal.

Healthcare providers should reach the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ goal of having 30% of all Medicare payments be value-based by the end of this year, one CMS official declared in early February.

The goal was announced last year by Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell, when the level was 20%.

“We think we’ll reach that goal,” CMS Principal Deputy Administrator and Chief Medical Officer Patrick Conway, M.D., told attendees at an event held in Washington.

CMS aims to have 50% of all Medicare payments be value-based by 2018 and rise from there as part of a drive to further reduce fee-for-service payments.
