Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson said Tuesday that improvement in healthcare technology could save providers more than $100 billion. He was addressing healthcare leaders at the World Health Care Congress meeting in Washington.
Thompson said such technology may improve quality of care and reduce the paperwork burden for hospitals.
President Bush said Saturday his budget for fiscal year 2004 proposes doubling to $100 million the money spent on projects that use health information technology.
