Though spring hasn’t officially sprung just yet, some Illinois long-term care residents are flowering others with joy.

The flower arranging committee at GreenFields of Geneva senior living community in Geneva, IL, has pledged to create fresh flower arrangements for the facility’s bistro tables. The community includes 43 skilled nursing beds.

The committee completed its first placements in January and plans to make them a weekly tradition. The facility purchases the flower bunches from local stores.

The hope is that the flower arrangements will help reduce stress and anxiety, and increase overall levels of happiness.

“We started this project because the residents love fresh flowers on the tables,” said Karen Tomko, community engagement manager. “I thought this would be a great way for residents to make a beautiful difference in our community while also having fun social time.”

Such big-hearted thinking surely deserves two big (green) thumbs-up.
