Staff members at an Illinois nursing home are keeping residents’ spirits high during the coronavirus pandemic by hosting a themed spirit week.

“You cannot put a price on the reaction you get from stepping outside the box and going that extra mile to make your residents and staff happy, improving all quality of life,” Allure of Mt. Carroll said in a statement to McKnight’s

The themed-week started with “Sports Dress Up Day” on Monday, followed by “Crazy Hair Day” on Tuesday and “Farmer Dress Up Day” on Wednesday. Today is “Mismatch Day”. The week will end with an 80’s-themed Friday.

“We love that we are able to capture a smile daily,” a spokesman for the nursing home said.

“We have added even more fun to ease the stress of residents with a bit of stress from not being able to venture out, or enjoy visitors at this time.”

Staff members also have implemented doorway exercises to keep residents active in light of a ban on large group activities.
