Telemedicine is gaining ground as a hot topic in the healthcare realm, with experts forecasting major growth for the technology in 2016.
Last week, Rep. Michael Thompson (D-CA) touted telehealth as a “novel” solution to strengthen the Medicare program, one that can benefit providers in both rural and urban settings. Bills recently proposed in both the House and Senate aim to make rural nursing homes eligible for broadband funding, in order to connect residents to telemedicine services.
“The ability for LTPAC organizations to leverage telemedicine and telemonitoring systems under the Medicare program expands the ability to provide vital healthcare services to individuals living at home,” said David Finkelstein, chief information officer at RiverSpring Health and featured McKnight’s Online Expo presenter. “This will drive the total cost of care down, a win-win for both patients and providers.”
Providers can learn more about telemedicine and other technology trends from Finkelstein’s session on Tuesday. He will cap off the first day of the expo at 1 p.m. Eastern.
Participants also can receive a continuing education credit by attending “MDS 3.0 Update”s led by Leah Klusch, RN, BSN, FACHCA, at 10 a.m., or by hearing Joyce M. Black, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, on deep tissue injuries at 11:30 a.m. There will be two Expo sessions on Wednesday.
In addition to earning up to five CE credits, attendees are encourage to visit the lounge and virtual Exhibit Hall, where they can receive information or prizes from vendors.
