The government has recovered the stolen laptop computer and hard drive with data on up to 26.5 million veterans and military personnel.

The FBI said Thursday that data on the equipment was probably not accessed. After taking the data home, the information was reportedly stolen. An unidentified person forwarded the laptop to FBI agents in Baltimore on Wednesday, according to the bureau.
Thursday’s disclosure comes after the Bush administration this week requested $160 million to cover credit monitoring cost for those impacted by the theft.
