The New Mexico Senate overwhelmingly passed the “granny cam bill” Friday, which would authorize families of nursing home residents to install video cameras in the residents’ rooms at their own expense. The bill was moved to the state’s House of Representatives.
The stipulation is that patients would have to be offered the video camera option when they were admitted to the facilities. The state’s Agency on Aging would oversee the program.
Senator Michael Sanchez (D-Belen) said the bill may give families peace of mind when they make the difficult decision to placed loved ones in such homes.
