VIRGINIA — State lawmakers in Virginia have voted against a proposal that would have set minimum staffing levels for nursing homes throughout the state.
State nursing home associations argued that the bill would apply a universal standard to all nursing homes and would hurt more than help. Other opponents argued the proposal could be costly.
Proponents countered that the proposal would help facilities provide better care quality for residents.
A state Senate panel recommended a study group be conducted on the matter instead.
