Long-term care providers should use photography more often to document injuries, a forensic nursing expert told nursing leaders in October.
The declaration contradicts legal advice of recent years, acknowledged Daniel Sheridan, Ph.D., RN, FNE-A, FAAN, a Texas A&M professor and Forensic Nursing Program Director.
But providers should take more advantage of photography’s ability to show both how an injury occurred and is healing, he emphasized at a session at the American Association of Directors of Nursing Services meeting in Baltimore.
“It can show you the wound is healing, albeit it slowly,” he said. “Photos can be very protective. It is a standard of nursing.”
