SRS Medical has created The Spanner, a temporary prostatic stent designed as an alternative to a catheter. The product can help reduce catheter-associated urinary tract infections.
The Spanner is approved by FDA for a single 30-day period in a limited patient population and the company is about to enroll patients for an expanded indications study.
The product may not work for those with an active UTI, history of urinary tract disease or surgery changing normal urogenital anatomy. It can be put in at a physician’s office without anesthesia or cystoscopy.
