The University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health announced that it received a $30,000 grant from the Maryland Health Care Commission. It will be used for a pilot to demonstrate whether telehealth technology can be used to improve care transitions as patients move between hospital and nursing facilities.
UM UCH has partnered with Lorien Health System’s Bel Air senior community, which has assisted living and nursing care, and LifeBot Telemedicine. During the pilot, physicians at the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center Emergency Department will conduct remote “telehealth” assessments of Lorien Bel Air residents through use of video cameras and other equipment.
Working in consult with a resident’s attending physician, the ER physicians will analyze patient status and any change of condition, and say whether it’s necessary to transfer the resident to the ER.
