The Environmental Protection Agency believes a pair of sBioMedLLC products are “misbranded pesticides” and ineffective against Clostridium difficile, as the product labels now tout. As a result, the agency has ordered the immediate stop of the sale and use of Steriplex SD Part A and Steriplex SD Activator Part B.
The company acknowledged the “Stop Sale, Use and ‘Removal Order’” from the EPA in a note Sept.16 to its customers but said it believed that efficacy testing by the agency might have been flawed. Nonetheless, the company is initiating a voluntary recall of STERIPLEX SD.
The EPA is recommending that “hospitals and healthcare facilities, which currently use these products for infection control purposes, find alternative EPA registered products which control Clostridium difficile.” Provider questions can be sent to the EPA’s Adrienne Fortin or Julie Chao.
