The Ensign Group has bought four skilled nursing facilities in California, effective May 1.

They are The Hills Post Acute, a skilled nursing facility with 172 skilled nursing beds located in Santa Ana, CA; St. Elizabeth Healthcare and Rehabilitation, a skilled nursing facility with 59 skilled nursing beds located in Fullerton, CA; Villa Maria Post Acute, a skilled nursing facility with 78 skilled nursing beds located in Santa Maria, CA; and Mainplace Post Acute, a skilled nursing facility with 163 skilled nursing beds located in Orange, CA.

Ensign also announced last week its affiliates had bought two campuses in Arizona and the assets of Resolutions Hospice, which operates hospice agencies in Austin and Houston, Texas.

Ensign announced Monday it would spin off its home health and hospice agencies, along with its senior living business, into a separate entity. The Ensign Group will include transitional and skilled services, real estate and post-acute-related new business ventures, while the The Pennant Group will include Ensign’s home health and hospice operations, substantially all of Ensign’s senior living operations, and Ensign’s mobile diagnostic and clinical laboratory operations, the company said.
