Eldergrow, known for its indoor gardening programs for seniors, is taking its programming outdoors to celebrate its fifth anniversary.

The addition of self-contained, outdoor gardening kits also acknowledges the limits the coronavirus has imposed on the company’s typical monthly programming. Eldergrow will begin shipping its new Farm-to-Fork Garden Activity kits to communities (and individuals) today, in honor of Earth Day.

The kit contains everything needed to start a garden and aims to instill residents with the benefits of therapeutic horticulture, the same way it has with its Therapeutic Horticulture Garden and Culinary Herb Garden programs. The mobile indoor gardens are made by disabled veterans and other adults living with disabilities.

Customers will have access to an online web portal filled with easy-to-follow garden tutorials and recipes to create with the herbs and engaging activities. Activities can be adapted for residents with cognitive or physical disabilities.

“We at Eldergrow want to make sure that the therapeutic benefits of gardening reach as many of our elders — and friends — as possible,” said Eldergrow Founder Orla Concannon. “The kit itself is a very easy and affordable way to get started with gardening — just add water and love.”
