The owner of a Southern Illinois assisted living facility is suing its architect and civil engineers for allegedly violating several construction codes when building the community.
The facility’s ownership says the firms improperly designed Cedarhurst at Shiloh’s sidewalk, built several units without the required showers and created undesirable lighting issues, according to a local report.
Cedarhurst, which is operated by Frontier Management, claims these errors resulted in Illinois’ Department of Public Health refusing to allow occupancy of the building until the issues were addressed. The building has 56 assisted living units and 31 memory care apartments and is in Shiloh, IL, about 20 miles east of St. Louis, MO.
Cedarhurst is asking for more than $200,000 in damages, plus court fees to cover losses such as staff costs, mortgage fees and repair costs, according to the Madison Record. The companies named in the lawsuit include the architecture firm Farnsworth Group Inc., and civil engineers Thouvenot, Wade & Moerchen.
