A New Jersey skilled nursing facility was put on lockdown last week after workers opened a threatening letter that mentioned the Aurora, CO, movie theater shootings.
Police who responded to the call from Woodcrest Health Care Center, located in New Milford, NJ, chose not to evacuate the facility due to residents’ mobility difficulties. Instead, residents were instructed to remain in their rooms for two hours while the Bergen County Police Department’s Bomb Squad and canine units conducted a sweep of the building, according to local reports. Police did not find any evidence of weapons or explosives.
The letter was received on Wednesday, July 25, five days after the deadly shootings.
Local police said they would work with local, state, county and federal officials in the investigation, and would examine the facility’s recent change in management as a possible factor.
