CMS rule alters MDS assessment process

The hourly salaries of long-term care physical therapy assistants rose by 2.25% over the last year, according to the recently released 2009-2010 Rehabilitation Compensation Report from Hospital & Healthcare Compensation Service (HCS).

Their salaries increased to $27.29 an hour from $26.69. Both therapy directors and staff therapists in long-term care facilities saw uniform salary increases over the last year. The salaries of directors of physical therapy expanded by an average of 2.31% to $83,979 a year, while the salaries of staff occupational therapists nationally grew by 2.53%, increasing their hourly compensation to roughly $35.27. Home health physical therapy assistants received a 6.24% increase in their hourly salaries to $27.74 in 2009, up from $26.11 in 2008.
