From an early age, Alicia Hartnett knew her career mission was working with an aging adult population.

While earning her degree in sociology, concentrating in aging studies, at John Carroll University in suburban Cleveland, Hartnett interned at nearby Montefiore Hospice. After graduation, she became the activities director at a senior living residential apartment complex in Kansas City, MO. She then participated in a nine-month administrator training program administered by the state Board Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators.

Hartnett worked as an assistant nursing home administrator at Alden Estates in Ohio. She completed an administrator-in-training program at Carroll Lutheran Village and now serves as director of healthcare and assisted living at The Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant, a faith-based, not-for-profit continuing care retirement community in Ellicott City, MD. In this position, she oversees the daily operation of long-term care, short-term rehabilitation, assisted living and therapy services.

Hartnett is described as an achiever, organized and a good listener whose “exceptional emotional intelligence empowers them to trust her — and themselves — during even the most challenging moments.” Her focus on “human dignity, nurturing relationships and empowering others to do and be their best has created a sound team that provides quality and compassionate service and care to residents, and inspires everyone to be better,” according to her nominator.

Hartnett was among a small group of Maryland professionals selected to participate in the LeadingAgeMD Leadership Cohort program. She is credited with inspiring members of a new generation.
