Rep. Mike Ross (D-AR) is a member of the fiscally conservative Democratic Blue Dog Coalition.

Four dozen House Democrats are threatening to torpedo a war-funding measure that also postpones seven controversial Medicaid changes.

Blue Dog Coalition members may refuse to support the bill unless some spending provisions are reined in. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) indicated they will consider the group’s demands.

Kerry Weems said the cuts should happen now. The acting director for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services said states have routinely resorted to dubious funding schemes to siphon undeserved funds from the federal government. However, the National Governors Association said states will face fiscal calamity unless the cuts are made. Provider groups strongly favor the cuts as well. The House is expected to resume talks on the issue this week.
