McKnight’s Editorial Director John O’Connor has been named a finalist in the “Best Commentary/Blog” category of the 69th annual Jesse H. Neal Awards competition.

The Neal Awards are widely considered “the Pulitzer Prize of business media.” Considered the dean of US long-term care journalism, O’Connor is one of three finalists in the mid-sized division.

Now in his 33rd year leading McKnight’s Long-Term Care News and its affiliated publications and other endeavors, he has dozens of national journalism honors to his name for writing and editing.

“John is an editor’s editor,” says Steve Madden, general manager of the business media group of Haymarket Media, McKnight’s parent company. “His knowledge of the industry and ability to explain complex issues in simple terms is a rare gift. You can always count on John to shoot you straight, whether you want to hear the truth or not. That’s what makes him such a good leader and mentor. It helps that he’s such a good guy, too.”

O’Connor’s blogs are posted every Monday at mcknights.com.

The Jesse H. Neal Awards are the most prestigious editorial honors in the field of specialized journalism. Named after Jesse H. Neal, the first managing director of American Business Media, the Neal Awards were established in 1955 to recognize and reward editorial excellence in business media.

The program is administered by the Software & Information Industry Association. SIIA represents more than 450 large and small technology companies, associations and related interests across the diverse information industry.

The Neal Award winners will be announced April 21 in New York City.
