McKnight’s Long-Term Care News has kept a long winning streak alive, earning three regional awards in the 2024 Azbee Awards of Excellence program.

The two Silver Awards and a Bronze Award lifts McKnight’s LTC News’ overall total to 64 Azbees honors in the American Society of Business Publication Editors recognition program.

Senior Editor Kimberly Marselas and Senior Art Director Monica Pizzi combined to win Silver in the Best Original Research category for coverage surrounding the 2023 McKnight’s Long-Term Care News Mood of the Market survey. The print package combined reporting found in four Daily Update installments.

The unique research surveyed top skilled nursing managers and dug deeper than mere attitude. The “Mood” package peeled back nuances of the research and included what respondents felt they’re lacking or needing. A variety of HR and workplace experts gave their perspectives, resulting in an enlightening and unique package for our readers — workers and managers alike.

Also winning Sliver was the brand’s breaking news coverage of the proposal that was announced for the nation’s first nursing home staffing mandate. Judges rewarded Marselas and McKnight’s Long-Term Care News Executive Editor James M. Berklan for their exhaustive coverage, which was highlighted by a first-to-the-market pre-dawn bulletin the day the announcement was made.

Finally, Berklan and Senior Producer Bill Fitzpatrick were honored with the Bronze Award in the Upper Midwest category for their work on the podcast “How technology is shaping the value-based care evolution.”

Altogether, the McKnight’s brands earned 10 regional Azbees in the 2024 program. They included a Gold and two Bronzes for McKnight’s Home Care and two Silvers and two Bronzes for McKnight’s Senior Living. The Upper Midwest region covers journalists in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
