Outgoing and incoming LeadingAge leaders.

A record number of LeadingAge attendees and eight past board chairmen honored outgoing President and CEO Larry Minnix in a polished “thank you” ceremony at the group’s annual meeting and expo in November in Boston.

The dean of long-term care executives, Minnix will have led LeadingAge for 15 years when he retires at the end of this month. His COO, Katie Smith Sloan, will succeed him.

With his wife of 46 years, Kathleen, and family around him, he was praised for his numerous accomplishments, including the establishment of the Center for Aging Services Technologies (CAST) and a new Leadership Academy, and increasing diversity.

They also fondly referred to the Georgia native’s folksy parables.

“Serve boldly. Lead confidently,” Minnix told members during the sometimes tearful 35-minute ceremony. “You have values — don’t compromise them.”
