Workforce management technologies that put employees in the spotlight and help long-term care providers improve occupancy rates are of utmost importance to senior care leaders, a new survey finds.

The survey showed that investing in technology as a means to support occupancy growth is crucial, as leaders pointed to a range of solutions to help them get there. The workforce management technology features that survey respondents listed as most critical put employees in the spotlight: 68% of senior care leaders are looking for employee communication features, 54% want functionality that accommodates flexible shift times and 44% want tools that give visibility into employee schedules and independent professionals in one view.

Additionally, accommodations for flexible shift times (40%) and insights into schedule optimization (39%) were the top technology investments that senior care leaders identified as keys to operational growth.

Dallas-based healthcare workforce platform ShiftKey and OnShift, a ShiftKey brand, surveyed responses from more than 1,700 senior care leaders to reach their findings. In focus were features and functionalities that long-term care leaders feel are most needed in their workforce management tools, as well as the challenges they face in terms of recruiting and retaining facility employees and strategically engaging independent professionals.

Emphasizing the importance of communication, the survey also found that 37% of leaders said that investment in resident communication tools was critical for growth, while 30% highlighted patient monitoring technology as most critical.

“By adopting a flexible, technology-driven approach, senior care leaders can navigate the challenges ahead, ensuring a resilient and responsive workforce that delivers the quality care and service residents deserve,” survey authors noted.
