A Virginia healthcare provider did not pay long-term care nurses overtime for three years, the Department of Labor has alleged in a recently filed lawsuit.
The DOL contends that HPR Medical Services improperly labeled nurses as independent contractors and failed to pay them overtime, even though they routinely exceeded 40 hours a week, according to local news sources. Around 24 HPR registered nurses and licensed practical nurses cared for people in their homes and in nursing facilities, The Virginian Pilot reported. HPR is based in Virginia Beach and provides private duty nursing, including home health and hospice care, according to its Google Plus page.
The suit, filed Oct. 10, seeks an unspecified amount of overtime pay, according to the Pilot. HPR attorney Barry Taylor currently is out of the country and not responding to questions, the newspaper reported. HPR had not returned a call from McKnight’s as of press time.
