Nursing facilities again rank among the industries with the highest amount of occupational injuries, according to a report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics released last week.
Privately owned nursing homes and residential care facilities had a 7.1% injury rate in 2014, down .2% from 2013. That decrease moves nursing homes from the industry with the highest rate of injury to the second highest — air transportation ranked the highest with 7.4%.
Nursing homes owned by state and local governments saw a 12.6% incidence rate in 2014, down from 13.3% in 2013. Despite the decrease, government-owned nursing facilities again ranked as the only industry with double-digit injury rates.
For all industries, both private and government-owned, the total injury rate bumped up from 3.3% in 2013 to 3.4% in 2014. The private sector saw 3.2 injuries reported per 100 workers last year, a .1 decrease from 2013 that BLS notes continues a pattern of decline that has occurred for 11 of the past 12 years.
