The Department of Health and Human Services has been in contact with Florida health officials and administrators at nursing homes and other health facilities to provide assistance with emergency health needs and storm damage from Hurricane Frances, Secretary Tommy G. Thompson said Tuesday.
This comes as good news to the exhausted registered nurses, healthcare workers and fire department members who have been working since Thursday to help residents after homes were damaged, according to the Palm Beach Post. The article reports that the Federal Emergency Management Agency is working to get replacements for the fatigued workers as soon as possible.
FEMA has also sent water, food and other emergency supplies to shelters and agencies statewide. Gov. Jeb Bush declared Tuesday as the day the relief efforts would begin, according to the Miami Herald.
