Idaho — The leader of Idaho’s Medicaid division has proposed a temporary cut in hospital and nursing home reimbursements following the governor’s request that all state agencies cut 1% from their current budgets.
Medicaid Division Administrator David Wimmer suggested in late November that the state program reimburse only 90% of allowable costs — instead of the current 100% — to nursing homes and hospitals.
The temporary cut in reimbursements would save Idaho’s state general fund an estimated $14.8 million, according to Wimmer.
He has discussed the proposal with lawmakers and providers, and would need legislative approval before implementation could take place.
“It’s difficult because we do have a budget hole to fill, and not a lot of other ways to fill it that won’t have some really negative impacts,” he said.
