The former director of nursing at a Virginia long-term care facility has pleaded guilty to one felony count in a case involving residents with severely infected pressure ulcers, according to local reports.
Gina Bradley, also known as Gina Begley, admitted to a single count of giving a false statement as part of a plea agreement with federal authorities, the Kingsport Times News reported. Bradley originally faced eight counts of making false statements.
The case involves two residents of Brian Center, a nursing home that closed in 2012. One resident had infected pressure ulcers covered by feces-contaminated bandages, and the other had pressure sores infested with maggots, according to an indictment cited by the Times News.
Another former Brian Center worker — registered nurse Melissa Ann Forester — already had pleaded guilty to one count of making false statements, according to local reports. More charges could be forthcoming, as the investigation into Brian Center involved wire fraud, mail fraud, healthcare fraud and money laundering, federal authorities have stated.
Bradley faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. She is scheduled to be sentenced on May 7.
