The National PACE Association has named the eight states that will be closely analyzed for possible inclusion in this newest model of healthcare for the elderly.
The states are: Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia and West Virginia. They will market viability studies performed by technical assistance organizations that belong to the PACE association. The 17 states that currently have operational PACE programs were not eligible for the new grant program.
The PACE (Programs for All-inclusive Care for the Elderly) program is funded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. It is meant to be an alternative means to nursing home care for people 55 and older.
Each of the eight states will designate one or more communities for potential establishment of a PACE program.
