» Benedictine Health System President and CEO Dale M. Thompson will retire in December. Thompson is a former president of the American Health Care Association.

» The Ensign Group’s stock price rose 1% on news it would sell Doctors Express, an urgent care franchise that it had acquired in 2012.

» Extendicare CEO Tim Lukenda said the company’s 2012 results were “disappointing,” citing Medicare reductions and an overall weak economy. Consolidated revenue for 2012 declined $70.4 million from 2011.

» Indiana-based Long Term Care Investments LLC plans to build a 53,000-square-foot, $15 million skilled nursing facility in Fort Wayne. The building will sit on land originally cleared in 2007 for a medical park.

» Mainstreet Property Group and its affiliated REIT, HealthLease Properties, acquired 13 senior care facilities in North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia for about $141.7 million. Meridian Senior Living will manage six of the facilities.  Saber Healthcare Group LLC will manage seven.
