Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced that a proposed rule addressing changes in the Accountable Care Organizations program is coming soon, an official said at the Accountable Care Organization Summit on June 19.
Although further details about the proposed rule were not disclosed, Sean Cavanaugh — CMS deputy administrator and director for the Center of Medicare — said CMS “expects future success and collaboration with ACOs,” Bloomberg Bureau of National Affairs reported.
Currently, more than 360 ACOs are part of the Medicare Share Savings Program, which was established under the Affordable Care Act to organize improved coordination of patient care and shared savings among doctors, hospitals and healthcare providers.
Cavanaugh stated that new ACOs will join the MSSP on Jan. 1, 2015, Bloomberg BNA added. The deadline for applications is July 31.
