The McKnight’s Excellence in Technology Awards + Summit returns for another year — bigger and better than ever, with expanded categories and more opportunities to win and celebrate innovation in long-term care.

Providers and vendors now have 16 categories in which they may enter, with Gold, Silver and Bronze awards to be granted, as warranted. Included are opportunities for provider-devised programs, not-yet-to-market innovations and programs and innovations already in use.

“Each year, providers fascinate us with intriguing uses of technology to improve their caregiving processes and operations,” said McKnight’s Editorial Director John O’Connor. “This year, we expect more of the same — whether it’s high or low technology in play. And this year, we’re encouraging tech vendors to become more involved than ever with their provider partners.”

The annual showcase is an opportunity for stakeholders in skilled nursing, senior living and home care to demonstrate leadership and outside-the-box thinking when it comes to today’s tech. Submissions don’t have to involve complicated or costly devices or programs.

Organizers opened the entry portal Tuesday, with an early entry deadline of May 24. Standard and extended deadlines of July 1 and July 9 will arrive with slight entry fee increases.

Winners will be recognized for technology uses that improve efficiency, demonstrate innovative thinking or harness new tools to benefit residents and staff members.

Along with some of the categories from the past (Building Bridges, Innovator of the Year, Quality and KISS) there also will be newer categories, pertaining to, but not limited to, electronic health records, resident/patient monitoring and safety, medication management, staff scheduling, care planning, falls management and more.

A national, independent panel of judges will adjudicate entries, with a particular interest in approaches that lead to smarter workflows and better quality of life.

Finalists will be announced Aug. 14, with winners unveiled during the virtual McKnight’s Tech Awards + Summit on October 3. The event’s accompanying summit offers educational webinars that will enable providers to further their operational successes. Details will be forthcoming about its full agenda.

There also will be opportunities to celebrate winners in-person. In addition, victors will be featured in coverage both online and in print. Winners will be recognized across McKnight’s Long-Term Care News, McKnight’s Senior Living and McKnight’s Home Care and all their social and traditional media platforms.
