Senators are putting heat on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to reject a proposal to lower Medicare reimbursements for long-term care hospitals.
Eleven bipartisan members of the Senate Finance Committee wrote to CMS to reconsider reducing the reimbursement reductions. The regulation, proposed on Jan. 27, would cut reimbursements for “short-stay outliers,” or those who stay at the hospitals for short periods of time. Other lawmakers and healthcare providers also have objected to the proposed rule.
Nursing homes and acute care hospitals stand to gain — by receiving more residents and patients — if the lower LTC hospital reimbursement levels take effect.
