Orpyx Medical Technologies is developing a wireless shoe insert that will help people with diabetes manage peripheral nerve damage and hopefully prevent diabetic foot ulcers. The firm will soon ask the Food & Drug Administration to approve SurroSense Rx, an insole that that collects data on where wearers are putting pressure on their feet. The sensor works by wirelessly transmitting data to a wristwatch-type display or smartphone. The information can alert users that they might be putting too much pressure on their heels.
