Seniors with vitamin D deficiency may face more than 12 times an increased risk of heart failure, according to a study published in August.
A team of Brazilian researchers analyzed the medical records of cardiology outpatient clinic patients older than 60 to study the link between vitamin D deficiency and heart failure.
Their findings also showed men, people with heart arrhythmias and obese individuals had an increased risk.
In addition, the study showed a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency among its elderly subjects.
Results were published online in August in ESC Heart Failure.
